The Challenge
A UK-based investment management firm serving customers worldwide, required Data Centre hardware to be relocated between its New York and New Jersey locations and for specific equipment to be prepared for transit and shipped to the UK. The project included the physical power down, disconnection, de-rack and pack of in-scope devices along with mounting kits and accessories, and contents of storage cabinet, including the cabinet itself. In-scope devices were then to be transported from the client’s New Jersey location to its offices in the heart of New York. There, equipment returning to the UK had to be unpacked and transported to an installation area, re-packed for international transit and shipped safely. In addition, media had to be decommissioned and removed from site to a processing facility for I.T. Asset Disposal (ITAD) services.
The Solution
The investment firm chose to partner with Technimove, the trusted market leader in Server Relocations, Data Centre Auditing, Data Centre migrations and IT Recycling for companies in the UK, Europe and North America. Technimove provided extensive project management and planning services, establishing clear communication channels from the initial kick off meeting throughout every phase of the project.
The team came onsite at both New York and New Jersey locations, validated the equipment against an inventory list, un-racked and un-cabled all equipment intended for relocation and transported the equipment to the loading dock/staging area for pack out tasks. Depending on destination, the equipment was packed and transported on a dedicated transit containing only the client’s equipment or packed with customised relocation materials suitable for an international move. Technimove followed all defined security and chain of custody security protocols prior to releasing shipment for transit.
In addition, Technimove’s ITAD team removed disposable media from equipment and transported it to staging area for onsite HDD destruction, executed the ITAD service and provided certificates of destruction and recycling for the assets processed.
The Result
Close collaboration between Technimove and the client’s IT team yielded a successful multi-site relocation that was completed as planned, on time and without any negative impact on business operations.
