Project specification
Dow Jones engaged with Technimove in October 2011 regarding their upcoming relocation needs. Their requirement was to move 80 devices out of their London office and into an external Data Centre. They asked for Technimove to provide a decommission through to recommission service. In addition they asked us to provide an audit of their environment, supply copper, fibre and power cables, and pre-cable their new environment.
Technimove’s solution
Realising the importance of maintaining business continuity, we assigned a senior project manager to work closely with the client. In December a Technimove team went in to Dow Jones’ environment and completed an audit for them, capturing all of the cable connections for their devices and creating a Visio diagram of the rear of each device. In the 2nd week of January 2012, a team then went into their new environment in order to pre-cable their racks ready for their equipment to be moved in. The team topped and tailed every cable with labels showing which port of the device it was plug into.
The migration of the equipment started at 6PM on the Friday in the 3rd week of January. The Technimove team decommissioned, de-racked and then packed all of devices into the purpose built foam lined flight cases and transported them in the Technimove GPS tracked vehicles to their new facility by 3AM. At 8AM fresh team then came on site and unpacked, re-racked and recommissioned all of the devices for 8PM on Sat ready for Dow Jones to bring everything back online.
